Ceryle alcyon rare observation

Uploaded: March 08, 2008

A fairly rare sight, as a Belted Kingfisher (Ceryle alcyon) does a long-distance flight across a very large lake. Nearly every photo of this species usually shows it perched or hovering/diving, "cuz that's what they do". First time I ever saw this species crossing a large body of water in 30 years of bird observations so I was thrilled to be able to capture this image.

f/5.6, 1/1000, ISO 200, AWB, partial, +1.0, lens Canon EF 400mm L, tripod, south shore of Lake Apopka near Orlando, Oakland Nature Preserve, 3/09/08.

Exif: F Number: 5.6, Exposure Bias Value: 1.00, ExposureTime: 1/1000 seconds, Flash: did not fire, compulsory flash mode, ISO: 200, White balance: Auto white balance, FocalLength: 400.00 mm, Model: Canon EOS 40D
