Lunar Eclipse Montage
Uploaded: March 07, 2008
Lunar eclipse on February 20, 2008. Four exposures total: one for each phase of the eclipse, and a final "soak" of the sky for the stars. The bright blip in the lower left corner is Saturn.
The first moon is at 30% eclipse, exposed for the bright part of the moon (hence the more gray/blue color). About 1/500 sec exposure.
The middle moon was at about 85% eclipse. I exposed for the darkened part which is why the slight exposed part of the moon is so blown out.
Last moon is the near 100% eclipse, about a 2-second exposure.
Canon 70-200mm @ 200mm. Wish I had 400mm!

Thanks everybody! I'm happier with this version... the stars show up better. Funny, it was Sharpening in Photoshop that brought the stars out, not Levels or Brightness. #5607671Paul D. March 07, 2008
I wish you could see the original on my screen, the stars are REALLY bright... the upload process dims them for some reason. #5607676James E. Coleman October 25, 2008
