This is wonderful, Dale! I love the effects and the subject and composition make for a marvelous piece. #828780Tiia Vissak January 13, 2008
great tones & effects! #5332364Dale Hardin January 13, 2008
Thank you so much Bonnie and Tiia. This was always a favorite photo of mine taken in Morro Bay, California and I decided to play around with it a little. I love the Lucas Arts filter look but can't afford it, so tried to come up with something of my own. This is layered with about 30% chalkaholic filtering and about 20% simplify filtering with a little boost to saturation coupled with a final multiplication blend. I think the original is somewhere in my gallery as well. Dale #5333155

I was going to ask how you did this, Dale, but the ladies beat me to it. Do you use Photoshop? In any case, I absolutely love this etched, almost woodcut look! #5344167Dale Hardin January 15, 2008
Thanks you Nancy. Yes, this was done using PSE5. I also have PS7 but PSE does everything I need and easier learning curve. Now if I can just do it again! Dale #5345389Nancy L. Barrett January 15, 2008
Thanks for letting me know about PS Elements 5....I have a confession; I don't even have PS yet but I'm shopping around. "Easier learning curve" are 3 little words I need to hear! #5345755Reynaldo D. Reyes January 21, 2008
Dale, this is an absolutely creative shot. It looks like it was taken during the early days of the trade explorers. We do share a lot of things in common, not only the places we've been to. I use PSE 5 too and it is definitely easier to learn than the full blown PS. I have since been adding plug-ins and filters. Great gallery you have and I'll explore some more when I get the chance. #5373247Dale Hardin January 21, 2008
Thank you Reynaldo. I have done the same thing. So far am just using the freeware filters I've found. Two that I like are "Little ink Pot" and the series from "Xero" I really like the effect of the Lucas Arts filter but the cost is way over my budget. Buzz is nice too but the Xero series has a free one called "simplifier" that can do nearly the same thing with a little finesse. What are you using so far? Dale #5373383

Thanks very much SaMi. I hope to go back to Morro Bay soon and get some more shots. Dale #5420973Donna La Mattino Pagakis February 07, 2008
This is a beautiful scenic to begin with but the effects take it over the top Dale!! #5460739Dale Hardin February 07, 2008
Thank you Donna. I'm having a great time learning how to take some of my images to another time and place. Never realized before that it was possible to recreate a photo with what's in my thick head. #5461155Sign up for an interactive online photography course to get critiques on your photos.
