My son's niece wanted some portraits made and asked me even though I'd never done any before. Luckily she was a superb subject and with a little luck I managed to create a few we were happy with.

Thanks so much Heather. Actually this is kind of my second try. There is another image in my gallery where I tried to duplicate a poster that my grandson had of Marilyn Monroe. However this is the first one where I tried it from scratch.I used only one bounch flash at about 45 degrees to the right of camera and about 30 degrees off the ceiling. From the left of camera was a south facing window on an overcast day. The rest was creative cropping and PSE5. #5330913

Thank you Cindy. I went through every page of your website and noticed most of your portraits (or all) are outdoors or with natural light. Do you use or recommend any minimal lighting accessories for someone just beginning to take people pix? I don't plan to do anything commercially, just family and friends. Thank you for the kind words Lee. I must confess that the DOF was done in PSE. After I cropped the way I wanted it, I applied a blur layer and then uncovered the part I wanted in focus. I also applied a sharpening layer and then only exposed the sharpness of the eyes.I was blessed with a girl that posed very naturally and I'll be posting another image from that shoot in a couple of days. I was pleased also and would like to try again sometimes to see it was a fluke. #5340073
