Thanks, Dominick. I was quite pleased with the result. It was taken with 400 speed B&W film on my old Canon AE1.Kathy L. Clark March 19, 2008
Wow Conrad this is cool. When I first say the thumbnail I though it was an eye of some sort. Great find. #5663607Conrad L. Conero March 19, 2008
Thanks, Kathy. I have to consider this one of my best ever photographs. Had to kneel down in the mud to get this shot.M.Christine Duncan May 28, 2008
Looks like the mud was worth it! Nicely captured, but if I could, may I just say that there seems to be a bit of a line or an object in the very top right of the photo... perhaps a re-crop? Not to eliminate the whole object but just the line that seems to travel across the top of it. Still a great photo, no mistaking that! I'm enjoying your posts in our gallery. #5990414Chris N. Hey Conrad, this shot is great, if you look at the thumbnail from a distance it almost looks like a close up of a horses eye! With the grasses being the brow and the reflection being the eyeball. Great image. #5991995Joan E. Hoffman May 29, 2008
I love this one too Conrad. It does everything a photo should for the viewer! Great find and wonderful composition in capturing it! #5992120Lonnie M. Scott May 29, 2008
Hey Conrad!!! So who the hell needs studios, makeup and props?? Just give a real pgotographer a camera...a mudhole and imagination and he will bring back a great shot like "Abstract In Nature"!!!!! Well done. #5992327Conrad L. Conero May 29, 2008
Thanks Christine, Chris, Joan and Lonnie! This was in my camera about 6 months before processing, so you can see how often I took photos before getting my D40. Anyway, I'm not 100% sure now what's in the upper right hand corner, probably the bank at the far side of the pond. I have another version of this from a higher angle without that line, but the overall effect is not as good. I'm afraid to crop the photo to remove it for the same reason. That would remove some other important areas. I like photos that have more than one interpretation or are abstractions. I know this looks like an eye at first glance, and that's a plus. I try to compose in the camera and look for natural subjects although I'll try a still life composition on occasion. I was really pleased with this result, mud and all. :) #5992758Laura E. Hi Conrad. :) So half way down I see a split...but it's not mirrored. Is it chopped? I am too old and it is too late at night (2:30 am) to guess it right. So tell us more. I LIKE IT!!! -Laura :) #5995855Conrad L. Conero June 04, 2008
Thanks, Laura. Yes, it's mirrored. I didn't do anything else to the photo. There may have been a branch in the water causing the line there. I'm not 100% sure. But I like the effect. AS I mentioned, It was a long time after I took this image that I actually saw it developed. But whatever it was, I really liked the result. That shortcoming will be overcome with my D40, since I can check my results immediately. #6019244Candice L. Carter June 18, 2008

Nice find and great work,Conrad! #6097683Conrad L. Conero January 01, 2009
Thanks, Scott. Probably spend more time trying to capture abstractions than reality in my photos now. #6968040Stan Kwasniowski March 23, 2009
