Hi Penny! Glad to see you found a great spot to shoot. I've been busy at the Arboretum and Cantigny. I haven't made it to the Gardens this summer, yet. Hopefully, I'll have time to go soon.

I'm not a fan of PS filters and effects. I think I would like to see the real photo. I like the way the rose is framed by the two stems and the slight diagonal lines. Were you able to shoot this as a vertical? I'm just wondering how it would look that way. I tend to like vertical flower shots, but I seem to be shooting a lot more horizontal rose shots lately. Can't seem to figure out why!! :)

Hi Pat and Kath: I am slowly coming back to the land of living:) The move has taken much more time and effort than I wanted but it is so nice having the kids so close. I have gone to the Mo.Bot. a few times and our wonderful park across the street more. Slowly getting back to doing some shooting and have found nice people in the StL Camera Club. A really nice start in our new community.

I did shoot this flower both ways, Pat and I liked the framing better on horizonal. I did the watercolor as a tutorial in the GG and liked the effect. I got into painting in JZ Paint Class this spring and found it to be fun and theraputic. Jim said you have to begin with a solid photo to get a good painting.

I thought that the vertical might not work with this flower. Many of my recent flower shots are horizontal because of other blossoms, leaves, debris, etc., above or below. Plus, I think horizontal shots of flowers are a little more dramatic.

I've been shooting with so many people at the Arboretum who only like to see photographs as they were shot. They don't even like you to adjust contrast or brightness or saturation. But, I do anyway since I'm shooting RAW. Sometimes you just need to add a little punch.

I forgot you took the painting class this spring. And, Jim is right. You do have a good strong image for this type of photo. One reason I do "art" with a camera is because I can't draw! Now, with editing programs, you can do both! #698093

Hi Murry: I am always flattered when you give my work praise and since I have been away for awhile it is taking time to get back into the swing of things. Thanks you so much for building my confidence.
