F6.3, 1/2500sec, ISO500, 24-105mm f4 IS, Along the Karakorum Highway in Xinjiang/China, 11am. Our tour bus was travelling along the Karakorum Highway (on the Chinese side) to the Pakistan border when we passed by this Tajik lady with her baby. I have posted a photo of them with the husband in my gallery:http://www.betterphoto.com/gallery/dynoGallDetail.php?photoID=3881382&catID=&style=&rowNumber=9&memberID=188308] The Tajiks are one of the 56 ethnic groups in China. Most live in China's western Xinjiang region.

Colorful portrait of these two, Foh Mang. They look so exotic. The background really looks deserted. #676455Foh Mang Leong June 19, 2007
Hi MelissaThanks for great comments. Yeah the background is very barren...the land they live is very harsh - very dry, cold and with very little vegetation. The white spots on the top left are actually snow on the mountian peaks. When I was there I kept wondering why would people want to live in such environment.

In my opinion this is a picture worthy of National Geography magazine cover.Sign up for an interactive online photography course to get critiques on your photos.
