Description

I'm not sure this is a daisy, but it was very pretty and it was blowing in the breeze. Taken with Nikon CP 4500. 1/60; ISO Auto; Exp. Comp. +.3 EV

I'm certainly no expert on naming flowers, but I don't think this is a daisy either--at least not a species I'm familiar with. Looks more like the lily family (I'm way guessing). Nevertheless a really nice shot. I have trouble getting the right DOF when shooting closeups of flowers. This one is perfect. Nice work, Gerda. #7136

Thank you very much, Piper. You know, I even bought a couple of books on flowers to try to improve my knowledge of flower names, but they didn't help much. Their pictures weren't nearly as clear as ours (lol)! I'm just going to have to give in and buy one of those huge flower encyclopedias with really good illustrations one of these days. I really do feel dumb when I either guess at a name and get it wrong or find myself having to resort to titles like "pretty pink flower"!
Thanks again. -Gerda #10548

It's lovely by any name Gerda. Very nicely done and so very graceful and delicate. #10619

Thank you so much, Sherry, for your very kind comment. Incidentally, I checked another flower book last night and found a flower that looked to me quite a lot like this one, but since the illustration was just a line drawing, I'm not positive it was the same flower. It was called Brachycome iberdifolia or Swan River Daisy. I love the name "Swan River Daisy," so I kind of hope it really is the right one for the flower in my picture. #10620

it's beautiful and it's a cosmos :o) #10986

Thank you, Lianne--and thank you for finally identifying this flower for me. And here I thought that cosmos were among the few flowers I could identify! And I guess that trying to use flower encyclopedias to identify flowers is sort of like using a dictionary to find out how to spell a word: you can't find the word unless you already know how to spell it! Thanks again. -Gerda #11035
