This was taken last summer.
I was taking photos of the fence around this farm.
I began to hear yelling.
This Amish boy was approaching, shouting as he neared.

"You git, You git"
"No pictures, mister....you git"

I set the camera down and waited for him to come near.
I told him I was photographing the fence and not him.
It turned out that he was a very nice kid and we had a short chat.
I showed him some of the photos I had taken of other farms.

As I was leaving, he said,
"Mister, you can take a picture when I look away, okay?"

I have a Mennonite friend who used to come to our dairy farm to buy raw milk. We had a swing set outside, and one day her two youngest children, in full Amish-style attire, were swinging. It was an adorable photo opportunity and I asked my friend for permission to take their picture. "No, no," she insisted. "No graven images are allowed." Being respectful of her beliefs, I let the opportunity pass. However, I have frequently thought since, how many of these special moments has she forgotten because they weren't captured on film at the time? #440059
