Hi Damian: Yes, overcast days are perfect for zeroing in on details like this. In fact, I included this polarizer-instructional photo to show how a polarizer - in certain situations - can often remove reflections and beef up the colors on even overcast days! (Non-polarized version No. 1 looks just like this, except very muted - without the bright colors of the mural shown here.)
"Old" is a very appropriate reference here: This church (sorry, the name has slipped my mind) is the oldest in Los Angeles ... and it's right across the street from the main entrance to that wonderful slice of Old Los Angeles: Olvera Street.
