Caribbean Blue Eyes
Uploaded: November 08, 2006
Taken with 18-55mm lens f/11. This is my first portrait!! I have never taken photo's of people, they are not as forgiving as plants or animals. LOL. Also the first time I got to play with our new program (photoshop Elements).

This is my 1st. portrait. Also 1st time to use my new program (photo shot Elements). Critique wanted. Please.Debbie Del Tejo November 09, 2006
For your first time, this is very good...a better pose if she has her wrist bent the other way...it takes over the photo here. I am not sure if that is her color eyes but there is something weird about the SC..that color blue just makes it look a bit strange, to me anyway... but like I said, for your first time at people you did a good job. #3565198Shawn M. 1st, don't don't don't selective desat on people's eyes.2nd, the eyes are litterly an unreal color, way too much.
3rd, how did you convert? it appears you just converted to grayscale...get used to and practice B/W conversion using different methods, simply converting to grayscale or desat-ing leaves images super flat.
I look forward to seeing more from you.

christopher,Thank you very much. I mean that. Your family and friends all think something is great so you don't get any real help.
I used Photoshop Elements 5.0 and the Auto convert to B&W. It that desat??
I realy am a newbie.
Good friends had some realy bad luck and they didn't have money for Sr. photo's. So here I am trying my hand at something I know nothing about. I don't know how to pose people at all. Oh Well... A learning experince...headach...a challange...headach... lol.
The eyes, I didn't do any thing except color them after useing auto convert on the the hole photo. I also added a catch light in the left one because I realized that I hadn't captured it. I realize that the color wasn't real. I tried a more natrual color and she didn't like it. She said that she couldn't see it. So I made them what she wanted.
What meathod do you use to convert to B & W. I only know how to use the auto version. I just started using a program at all. Before all the things I did were in camera. I have filters ect. for Landscape and Nature photos.
Thank you for your time!

Shawn,1st I suggest you get Photoshop CS2, once you have that subscribe to Itunes and get the weekly photoshop podcasts to learn more.
As far as to what method I use to convert...well that depends on the image, there are some I use that only require 3 steps, others involve about 34 steps, there are a multitude of conversions out there, I suggest that once you have CS2 you do a web search for "Photoshop B/W conversion" you will come up with alot of choices.
