Ooooh Kerry, this is a gorgeous photo. You must have been scouting this out to know when to get the beautiful light. And the details of the bricks (or whatever) are visible on the shadowed wall without being obtrusive. I love that you didn't crop out the sky above the lighthouse. Thanks for sharing this.

Hi Nancy,
Good hearing from you, and glad that you like this photo! Yes, indeed, I had checked out this lighthouse in the not-too-inspiring midday sunlighy and thought it would make a great sunrise subject. Well, arriving at dawn the next morning, the clouds had blocked the sun ... pretty much "dull" conditions for a big view of the lighthouse. I turned my attention to small details and colors - perfect for soft light. Well, I was about to pack up and leave when the sun started to peek out. The dark sky made the perfect background as the low-angled sun hit the lighthouse. I chose a low-in-the-frame placement of the lighthouse and a vertical format just so I could emphasize the dramatic sky.

Thanks again Nancy!
