The title and rich warm colours completely drew me in ... may I ask what it is? From the texture I'm guessing moth wings or fabric of some sort. Wonderful lighting and balance in this detailed macro. #919852

Hi Crystal,
Actually this shot is on my desktop, it is one of my favorites. I really like the shape and sense of three-dimensionality of the image. It is a butterfly wing, taken with a low power microscope. I feel that the microscope gives the photographer a limitless vista for making new and unique images. Microscopes are really quite reasonable; you can get one and the adapters for around $200, less than many macro lenses. Check out this article here at BP: www.betterphoto.com/article.php?id=185. Thanks for your interest in my images.
Thanks, John Siskin

Wonderful article! I have actually been considering getting a macro lens ... OR studio lighting (bugetary restrictions). Your article opens a whole nother world I'd never even considered! Also ... thank you for posting the information about using two desk lamps for additional lighting! Great ideas and inspiration :) Thank you John #5914276
