I do really like this portrait. It's simple and impressive, especially his eyes. I just tried this in BW and put more contrast as well as dodged a bit his catch-light and I can see it in other way than the colored version.

Thanks for sharing!

Nason, is that paint on his forehead??? because if it is, the black and white just looks like a way overexposed forehead and/or a white blotch. The color one shows more of the color in his forehead but I am not sure if it is paint or not. In this case ( AND I LOVE BLACK AND WHITE) I like the color one better. Interesting portrait though. #2807561

Thank you Nason and Debbie for the interest in this indian portrait!
I like the work that Nason have done and I appreciate the high contrast B/W.

I am curious about just one thing... who took the picture???? #2866161

Debbie Del Tejo June 07, 2006

Oh good eye Jesse....was it Carlo or Nason. #2866511

Carlo Cascone June 07, 2006

I took the shot in India and posted it in color. Nason a wonderful black and white version!

Is Nason a person? Did Nason with your permission, alter then repost the image? Or is Nason your persona for BW images? It's no big deal really, I am just curious. It was just unusual to me to see two identical images with two seperate copyrights. #2868137

Carlo Cascone June 09, 2006

You're right Jesse! It looks strange to me too. I do not know how Nason could capture my photo and post it again in B/W. One thing I am sure: I am Carlo Cascone and I posted the colored shot!!!
Now I ask Nason to help, us in solving this enigma!!!!

Ok, lets look at this from a legal standpoint, maybe we all can learn something useful. If I were to take the BW image and sell it as mine, who would have legal recourse for copyright infringements, Nason or Carlo? My best guess is Carlo since he is the original artist(photographer) that made the image. If Nason were recruited by Carlo to help edit the image, did Carlo forfeit the right to copyright protection to the altered image? From Carlo's previous response, he was unaware of the altered repost. I thought if you attempted to download an image from here, you would get a dialog box stating that unauthorized downloads are not permitted and to contact the photographer. #2876139

I agree with Jesse! It is not possible to download pictures directly from "betterphoto". All of us tried once and got the alert dialog box as Jesse wrote!
Maybe Nason is part of betterphoto staff and could have access to the original picture! NASON ... NASON where are you? Let us know your trick!!!

If I can just give you my thoughts on the "technical" part of downloading a picture from betterphoto.com ... It is possible, fairly easy even, but I do not want to post it here. I don't know if a forum admin reads this but he can sure send me a little message and I'll explain! #2876601

If he is computer savvy he might have figured a way to....nothing is impossible!

I know it is actually possible, the message box only works in certain browsers, not in certain others. Maybe the coders can fix that as well, I will even help them by telling them the browser I know doesn't stop you. But, the primary point is a legal standpoint. Who owns the copyright to the BW version, Nason or Carlo? Where are the lawyers when you need one???? We keep this up and we will fill an entire issue of snapshot with this dialog...lol #2877546
