Uploaded: May 03, 2006 00:05:41
Castle Howard, Nr York, Uk. Early in 1724 Vanburgh sent some designs for a pavillion for the south east corner of Ray Wood, Castle Howard and was pleased to learn that the 3rd Earl had chosen the temple with four Porticos. It is modelled in part on Paddadios Villa Rotonda in Vicenza. The temple is an open rotunda of 8 Tuscan columns under an octagonal entablature and dome. f20 @ 1/13 80 mm ISO 100

Wonderful historic building and so very interesting. I read that Vanburgh died two years later and the temple didn't finish until ten years after his death.Beautifully shot with the trees forming a frame, well done R&A. ~Pat #2719586

Great capture, this is just picture perfect! #2719683Susan Jane Allen May 03, 2006
I see you have a new mini-pic--it's lovely! And really like this capture--very peaceful. When looking at it, I kind of had the feeling that it might be more restful to the eyes if you cropped in closer and cropped out more of the sky. What do you think? I'm no expert and rarely dare give advice--just a thought! #2719701Laura Clay-Ballard May 03, 2006

Temple is wonderfully framed by branches. Great scene, Ray and Audrey. I also like the second view because of its dramatic POV. I could imagine it being cropped. #2720016Shelly A. Van Camp May 03, 2006

It is indeed a beautiful place with an impressive architecture. Second picture is way better than the first one simply because of the angle where it was taken, but both shots suffer from an overexposed sky.Second picture evens shows some glare on the left side of the building.
Both frames might improve by using a tighter composition since the inclusion of the trees on both sides of first frame force to include too much sky.
The constructive part of my comment is that when the weather is not on your side; try a different approach like capturing the details for instance. I’m sure you tried some, but regarding these two images the problems is that light wasn’t good at that moment.
I also feel both images are soft. I could think that it was due to haze perhaps, but first shot’s description reads 80 mm, and that simply states that you where too far from your subject to get a good shot. 24 mm, 35 mm, even 50 mm are recommended, but telephoto doesn’t make justice to these architectural jewels.

I think that you caught a nice mood here. I think the softness enhances the rainy atmosphere in this case. It seems like a very beautiful place. #2721414Jamil Saliba May 03, 2006
