Hi Rebecca, I am responding to your request for some critiques. This is a nice rose shot with good color and lighting. However, if you look through the entries, you will see LOTS of rose shots very similar to this. A lot of people on BP are gardeners and are taking closeups of their roses like this. If you will look through the winners in the Flowers category, you will see that they all have a creative or unique element to them... a different way of seeing the flower. On BP, a winner must be more than "pretty"-- it must be creative, have unique or especially good lighting, etc. etc. It must stand out in some way from the other 25,000 entries! I'd study the other winners and see if you come up with some ideas of your own. Hope that helps.

Valuable comments, Nancy. It is not easy to come up with a stand out flower shot when you think that 25,000 other fine photographers are trying to do the same thing. It takes looking, looking and more looking to see what catches the eye. #2550071
