16 Moons by accident

Uploaded: March 14, 2006

Description

f/6.3, 1/60th second, ISO64, Aperture Priority Mode, Center-weighted Average Metering Mode, -1.7ev, tripod.
In addition to this puzzling image (I have no idea how the moon was duplicated here--I shot it as a single frame, centered image of the moon--the file dimensions are 1280x960 (not my usual default file size of 2592x1944)

you know, this is a pretty cool shot, when you do happen to find out how you actually did this, please let us know, sorry I can't be of any assistance to you though. #409760

I agree... I was quite surprised by it. I'd have liked it to be a bigger file (ppi) so the moons would appear larger... even at 100% magnification, they are kinda tiny! I don't think I'll ever know what happened--I am starting to believe it was a technical fluke, or perhaps my chip is starting to go bad... I'm not convinced that the camera has a function to achieve this. #2539032

Pretty amazing story and shot, Christopher! #2539039

'Tis a mystery, but it does make an interesting image! (Pity so small, though.) It would be easy to create this image from a single shot of the moon, using Photoshop; I honestly didn't, but I still feel like I take no credit for this shot, since I believe it to be a camera malfunction!
It appears (to my eyes) that every moon in it is identical---ie, no subtle variations, as if it were a composite of 16 individual shots the camera took, a few seconds apart... who knows!! #2539137
