Swimming

Description

Muskrats are similar to beavers but there are important differences. First, of course, is their size - muskrats are much smaller. But another interesting difference is in the way they swim and the tail. A muskrat's whole body is often visible when it swims whereas only the beaver's head is above water. And muskrat tails are long, skinny, and flat-sided; they use them as their primary means of propulsion when they swim. Beaver tails, as you may know, are wide, flat and paddle-shaped.
