Description

f/4.0, 1/45s, 17 mm (35 mm equiv 28 mm), ISO 1600. When Keith and I were posing this have and have-not picture, a homesless man stopped beside us to dig cans from a trash can and I felt guilty that we were just posing, but he left before I could think to offer to pay him to pose or just offer him some holiday cheer money.

Mary this image looks so cold. The snow and ice on bench and the pose of the man. Very nice shot of this man.

I bet he could have used the holiday cheer money. #2193651

It's hard to know what to do, maybe you could donate to a homeless shelter? This is a excellent shot, Mary! Kind of sad really. #2193973

A fantastic image and a good reminder to be thankful for everything that we have and to remember those less fortunate during this season of giving. #2194849

Very well composed and expressed, Mary!!! #2195053

Very moving image, Mary! Wonderful clarity! I agree, maybe a donation to a worthy cause would be in order. #2195433

Makes one stop and think of all those who have less than we do. Moving image indeed, Mary! #2197020

A great concept Mary. Great picture too but I agree it would have been better if you could have asked the man. Now that would be a good course to do wouldn't it? Even if I think of asking someone I am always too reticent! #2197575

Thank you Jenny and Kate. I have a habit of thinking of things too late or after the fact. I am not one of those people who has great ideas and leaps to act on them. Even if I had thought of it, I might not have had the courage to ask. Though we did interect with another street person and get some pictures of him, just not this picture. But I wasn't the one who first spoke to him. I also want to be careful not to insult someone or injure their dignity.

I was going to post the picture I took of Dale but it may be on the computer that died--I can't find it.

I will post another version of the picture of Keith in front of Borders on Kerchival. I thought it might make a good black and white, but when I desaturated it, there was little ontrast between inside and out and I wanted it to show the warmth inside and the cold out. Here is the partially desaturated version with the windows restored to nearly full color.

If you like this version and think I should resubmit it, let me know. Thanks.

And thanks again Jenny and Kate. #2197839

I think the second one does show the the contrast more between outside and the warmth inside. Keith looks far more like a tramp. In the first one I didn't feel he was like a real tramp ~ it just looked like Keith with the hump!! #2198883

Mary N C. Taitt December 19, 2005

Thanks, Kate, is that a definite vote for actually submitting this second version? #2201296

Kate Jackson December 19, 2005

Yes ~ I am positive that I think it is worth submitting the second version. #2201338
