Description

Only the Kalyazin Bell Tower remains peek above the Ulgich reservoir. This was a neoclassical campanile that was built in 1796-1800 as part of monastery of Nicholas II. It had 12 bells the largest weighting 1038 pounds. In 1939 Joseph Stalin ordered the construction of the Ulgich Dam to form part of the Ulgich Reservoir
flooding the main portion of the Monastery and only the bell tower can now be seen. On the Volga River. At least this is what I remember of it.

Well I love the story behind the picture, found it fascinating. The picture sure does show us that this is from another part of history. Am glad that this part got to be seen above the water so the story never gets old and each generation learns all about it. Composing, colors, details, and lighting all done perfectly. Gorgeous work Emile. Have a great day my friend. #11398320

Gosh Emile, it looks like the last of it is about to topple too! Great history involved around this bell tower, and lovely light on the ruins. #11398480
