The "Swallow Seat"

I have long wondered how the phrase "catbird seat" came about. It's supposed to be a GOOD PLACE!. Well this swallow at Duke Farms in Hillsborough, NJ seems to have a pretty darn good spot! I did have to photo-clean a LOT of bird poop from the light and post!

Beautiful done Michelle!!! The "catbird seat" is best position to be in. James Thurber used the term in a short story in 1942 and the famous baseball commentator Red Barber popularized it. Catbirds, related to mockingbirds, seek the hightest point in an area to deliver their song. Catbirds got thier name because of their ability to mimic a cats meow. #1617716Jeff Robinson May 13, 2015

Wonderful capture Michelle. I liked the story from Ed, although I don't think I had ever heard that phrase used. #11301568Ed Lauderdale May 13, 2015

That's a biiiig light and a liiiitle bird there. I've had some "discussions" in the past with these pretty little swallows when they wanted to move into the martin houses. #11301770Barbara Waldoch May 15, 2015
