Courtyard Gate

Description

I felt an image of ironwork was appropriate this morning, to celebrate this week's publication of Nol Putnam's new book, "Beauty in the Shadows - Wrought Iron in the Washington National Cathedral". (To which, I'm thrilled to say, I contributed several dozen images!)

I spotted this wonderfully "scroll-y" gate on a walk to the Duomo. It was set halfway down a long passageway leading to an interior courtyard. The bright patch of garden greenery, with the unlit corridor, beautifully silhouetted the gate's curvy lines, suggesting to me tendrils on a vine. It conjured images of secret gardens and elegant garden parties, and seemed like a wholly appropriate style of gate to lead you to a garden space.

Wonderful balanced composition, Chris, highlighted by that compelling lime green at the center. HUGE congratulations on being published this week, and in such a big way! So wonderful to extend the audience for your outstanding work. #1595404

The green is calling me, but, I don't have a key to get thru the gate... :-)
