The White Pocket is an isolated, notoriously hard-to-reach patch of sandstone hidden within the desert expanse of Vermillion Cliffs National Monument near the Arizona/Utah border. It is considered a geological treasure. Only a year ago, White Pocket was relatively obscure, formerly known only by local ranchers and a handful of adventurous photographers. Today, White Pocket is on the bucket list of photographers and outdoor enthusiasts.

Absolutely breathtaking Terry, outstanding earth tones along with the beautiful clouds and sky put this gorgeous scenic right over the top. A definite winner in my books and one that I'm sure we will be seeing again real soon. #11038828Ken Smith May 04, 2014
Ahhhh, you made it there. Did you have a guide or venture the sandy roads yourself? It's on my bucket list too. I'd love to camp there (if I only I camped), for sunrise/sunset. I bet the stars would be brilliant. Super work! #11038835Terry Cervi May 04, 2014
Thanks so much, Colette, Leslie, Jeffrey and Ken. Ken, no we didn't have a guide, we made the trip in our off road package 4-wheel drive Silverado. We about bottomed out a few times as the ruts were deep and the sand was loaded with big rocks so the going was SLOW! Almost hit my head on the roof top a few times with the bouncing and the grip handle on the inside of my door had to be fixed when we got back as it came loose. LOL. But we made it. It was worth the rough ride. #11038840Wm Nosal May 04, 2014

Is this where The Wave is also? This ws so worth the wild ride you took to get there. Into my favorites as I will probably never get there to see it myself :-) #11041106Terry Cervi May 07, 2014
Thanks so much everyone! Jill, yes The Wave is found in the northern section of Vermillion Cliffs. You need a permit to go in there and they only allow so many people per day. We couldn't get a permit but luckily, you don't need one to explore White Pocket. #11041145Deborah Lewinson May 07, 2014
