Baby Roo

Uploaded: November 10, 2005

Description

A seven month old baby kangaroo, still on wobbly legs, ventures from its mother's pouch to test out a few blades of grass after having survived on milk until now. Kangaroos come closer to civilzation and the highways in the dry months looking for water and many are killed on the roads - especially by road trains. Sometimes, the mother dies, but her joey survives in the pouch, but would die if there weren't conservation groups that check for the babies and raise them to be released back into the wild when they are able. They are beautiful creatures. Luckily it has been rainy here, so the roos are well back in the bush right now.... harder to spot for photo purposes, but safer away from the roads.
