Polar Bears are not white but have black skin. Their fur is tubular and translucent and it is this and the snow that make them appear white. Their closest relative is the brown bear. While most male weigh about a 1,000 pounds and can be much heavier the female typically weigh between 350 and 650 pounds. They have a special nose that lets them smell seals up to 20 to 60 miles away.
