You know that is the funniest paint job I have ever seen. Depending on the lighting it changes colors. I think the true color is a burgundy...but the lady had it pained NAVY BLUE before that! So that comes through at times making purple feels to it. Very strange paint indeed... but that is not the correct answer. :D

Interesting! Part of camping equipment... You know... MAYBE in the WAGON TRAIN DAYS...And before. This MIGHT have been used while camping out but I'd have to say in general, NO!

Well, Wm, I love your guess but it's not snow shoes of any kind. Canadian tire wouldn't carry this item...but maybe an old mercantile store (hardware store) would have back in the day?

THIS ITEM WAS USED ALL YEAR LONG (and on each date on the calendar too!) by EVERY FAMILY likely. :) (GOOD HINT!)

Hi Big Sis Lydia! You didn't guess this time but I will say this. It has nothing to do with snow or ice.

Which brings us to Laura Lee and Mike's entry here. Tell Mike GREAT GUESS! Like connected to a hook or giant ice pick or ice block mover. Neat! But no. No hook involved. This item used to be used in homes. A lot. And here is the kicker... NOT USED JUST IN THE KITCHEN BUT IN LITERALLY EVERY ROOM of the house! HA! Huge hint as far as things it is not!

Great Whazzit macro, Pom! I must admit, I waited to comment until AFTER you showed the candle holder... Much as I might have enjoyed using the prize (chamber pot included, I imagine), my brain wasn't up to the challenge to win it.
