Demolition Begins

Uploaded: January 15, 2014

Description

--------
The water remediation team arrived early yesterday morning. The ceiling and wall of this room (and another) in our 85-year-old (plus) house had to be ripped out to be dried out. This was the beginning. Believe it or not, there was no insulation in this wall. You're looking at old, rotted dry wall, right against the outer stone.
---
One good thing is that with the renovation, we will be able to add insulation.
----
By the time the guys left last night, all the mess was cleaned up, and about five dehumidifying machines not unlike the ones I posted yesterday, were at work. Once dried, everything will be treated with anti-microbial and anti-mold "stuff."
----
Then the remediation steps on the roof above will be done, while renovation below begins.
-----
I'm feeling happier already.

The only good thing about this is when it's done, it's all new and good for another 85 years or more. I did a remodel myself on our 125+ year old house and by the time I was done there was not much left of the original except the shape.
Excellent image of this ongoing project, Michelle! #10947396

As we always said in the road construction business...

True, noone thought of insulation 85+ years ago.
We've lived in old houses too and some of them were very mouldy, which of course is not healthy.
I'm happy for you that you're getting yours renovated, Michelle.
I hope you take pictures of the whole process. It will be fun to look at once it's habitable again. #10947934
