We have a like mind Beth and yes we resorted to gunfire to get that sucker down! William did the shooting from an upstairs window, while once it appeared that the little buggers in there hadn't yet woken up I rushed over and sprayed half a can of Hornet Killer into their front door.
Do we have fun out here in the mid-west or what!
Thanks everyone for your comments and suggestions on the original image. And yes Jeff and Rita I must remember to call you guys for advice when I find a family of skunks in our garden shed. Poke them with a stick should do it, eh?

My brother has suggested we get it stuffed and mount it over the fireplace. He is an airline pilot but I think I will avoid flying with that silly sod don't you!

Awesome job Peter! I am glad Will is a good shot! You all would fit in well here in West Virginia!! It is gun season for deer and there is an awful lot of shooting going on!!
It is a big nest! and just think it wasn't the one that got away!!
Happy Thanksgiving!! #10908615

Don't all Americans shoot down their hornet nests?
I didn't know about the skunk poking though... #10908641

Holly mackerel! That is a monster. Can’t believe you lived under it for long enough for it to get this size. First time I have ever heard of going after insects with a gun other than those big ones in SF movies. #10908962

HAHAHAHA still laughing Peter,

that is a really large nest...glad Will could aim so well! Lisa Peter just hadn't had his coffee yet this morning you are suppose to grab them by the tail...LOL #10909267

Had never seen one that large. We used to burn them when I was young. #10911693

Holy moses that is HUGE! Good idea-I may try that with my bb gun next summer:O

We heard our first gunshots behind our house yesterday-the opening of deer season I guess. It is a weird thing to live here in Avon-it was all farmland till about 15 years ago when a lot of farmers sold their land to subdivisions. I used to live near Avon, but moved back here 10 years ago and barely recognized it. Weird mix of farmers and yuppies. #10912522

Which one are you, Elaine? :o) #10912956

I'm not sure Jeff! The farmers would say new Avon. I would never have a real gun in my house and I don't have the stomach to go hunting :( #10913682
