Just Burned Their Mortgage

Uploaded: June 04, 2013

Description

---
These are members (and friends) of the congregation, leaving the church on Sunday after participating in a ceremonial "Mortgage Burning" celebration.
----
The church is a "shining star" in a blighted area of Philadelphia. A simple, but beautiful building and place in which to worship, with softly upholstered pews and a soaring paneled ceiling--air conditioned -- plenty of light shining in.
-----
The room was filled with hundreds of worshippers, all decked out in their Sunday finest; women sporting an array of wonderful hats!
----
Construction was completed in 1999, and the loan was paid off completely SIX YEARS before it's planned fulfillment.
---
What a glorious day! And was their pastor EVER inspiring. At the end, he led the congregation in song, and I was almost bowled over by his baritone!
