~ LOWER FOX CREEK SCHOOL ~

Uploaded: February 19, 2013

Description

This is the Lower Fox Creek Schoolhouse, a one-room school built sometime between 1878 & 1882 a few miles north of Strong City Ks in eastern-central Kansas. The school served the surrounding area until 1930 when it was closed, and the district itself was dissolved in the 1940's. The current roof is a replacement, the original having been destroyed by a windstorm at some point. Mid-east district garden clubs of Kansas selected the one room schoolhouse as a restoration project in 1968. The schoolhouse sits within the Flint Hills Scenic Byway and is a part of the Tallgrass Prairie National Reserve.
