Stephen, Love the reflections in this and it is quite unique in that you are giving us a picture of what the sun is doing but doing it in black and white. Makes the viewer think about tonalities and makes a much bigger impact than if it were in color. I am loving the reflections in the water. Wouldn't change a thing. #1512755Jeff E Jensen February 04, 2013
Yea, this is really nice. your B&W conversion is spot on. The only distraction to me is the really strong shadow in the bottom, right. With it being completely black, I find myself trying to see what's there. #10553246Rita K. Connell February 04, 2013
this a great shot Stephen but I am with Jeff on the only distraction of being the really strong shadow in the bottom right, everything else shows a great reflection but that rock does not. #10553379Elaine Hessler February 04, 2013
Very pretty Stephen. I like the B/W too. It works well with the image. #10553995Beth Spencer February 04, 2013
I really like this one, and especially the way it looks foggy under the trees. What a beautiful shot! #10554110Brandi K. Mills February 04, 2013
Love the reflection. It's gorgeous! Looks like there may have been a little fog across the way. The only distraction I find is the bright grayish tree across the way. It's not what I want to look at but feel like I have to. #10554242Stephen Shoff February 04, 2013
Thank you for your comments and suggestions. I very much like B&W renditions like this that have bright white subjects standing out from black backgrounds, so I'm glad you liked this interpretation Debbie. Conditions were such in the Valley, with old snow and such, and a lot of bluish cast, that nothing seemed to be working for me in color.I have tried to address the suggestions. Brandi -- I agree and wasn't satisfied with the background trees in the upper left. Part of that is oversharpening bringing out bright white specks. Hopefully I've been able to reduce that more.
Yes there was sparse ground fog in the trees. I'm happy I was able to retain a suggestion of that.

The edit looks great. I like the change you made to the rock's reflection. Looks beautiful! #10554498Michael Kelly February 05, 2013
Very strong photograph Stephen. The B&W works great here for the reasons you mentioned. I like the edit as I was also having a bit of trouble under the rock on the lower right but this is a good fix. I like it a lot! #10555514Jeff E Jensen February 06, 2013
Perfect! #10555899Beth Spencer February 06, 2013

A nice strong image. I also like the second version better for reasons mentioned above.Sign up for an interactive online photography course to get critiques on your photos.
