HAPPY T-K-W DAY!

Uploaded: December 01, 2012

Description

-----
The Happiest Cicada! After possibly 17 years underground (as a GRUB) he is clearly enjoying his day in the sunshine! Perhaps he has just wooed the love of his life?
-----
Congratulations to all the October Winners! Pretty Near ALL the Finalists deserved higher honors, IMHO.

I would rather have a butterfly or even a lady buy on my finger but I guess we have to be fair about it. It may not be the prettiest but you did get some amazing close up details. Your work ( not it) is beautiful my friend. #10444438

Yikes. I think it is staring at you. RUN! (Maybe he thinks you are the love of his life perching him on your finger with such kindness?) <--- I'd still RUN! Lol...

What a cool macro, Michelle. And what an ugly bug. So ugly it's neat!

You are brave. It could have bitten you!!

Love it!

Being a lifelong bug enthusiast, I have to share with everyone who will listen..Cicadas are BEAUTIFUL up close. They truly are! And they don't harm anyone or any THING as far as I know. It's not my hand holding him though. I was in Trenton, NJ with Bill...HE found the cicada in a bush...apparently dying. The poor bug probably had his last smile posing for me cradled in Bill's hand. Can you see his smile? #10450725

Okay, now I feel badly for what I said up there. I am not a bug gal and usually panic and run. I will now stop, look at him again really well and try to appreciate this very loved little bug.

First, If you love him, I love him. :D I trust your judgement.

He is a nice color of green. Pretty wings, like a fairy. He has wonderfully big black shiny eyes...and I am sure you made him feel safe in his final hours. May he R.I.P.. :)

Thank you for the education, Michelle. Fear stems from not understanding sometimes. I like him even more knowing he wont bite or sting.

-Laura :)

Nice!
Once again ... I have an image that could be the next chapter in a story about this little guy. Maybe we should get together and write some stories with our images!

We get a lot of these fellas in my neck of the woods - in fact we call them "ugly bugs"! But I've never tried to shoot one up this close - great details and clarity! #10452859
