Wow, Jeff, that is great! A new style of light painting?Sure gets past the photo-realistic. Looks like science fiction. Great job on capturing the stars and Milky Way. Is it a moonrise that is lighting the sky? #1492355
Jeff E Jensen October 15, 2012
Thanks, Stephen! This was captured Friday night near Lucin, UT. This is one of the Lucin Sun Tunnels (Peter - that should give you some good Google reading). Four friends and I headed out and spent the night there, doing some light painting, time lapse, stars, and the sunrise. There was only about a 5% moon, and this was taken at about 11 pm, so the light here is ambient light coming from the west. Here's a shot of the tunnels in the daylight. #10370070

How magical! :~) I love that you included the tunnel and didn't just do the sky. I like the sillouhette the tunnel made and how it starts off skinny on one end and ends up fat on the other. I can't believe how beautiful the sky is there. We can't see that much here because of all the light pollution. This might make a nice panorama too! #10370092Jeff E Jensen October 15, 2012
Thanks, Aimee! I played around with some different crops, but just couldn't bring myself to chopping off part of the milky way.I just made a 13x19 print of this and it's pretty fantastic. Going on my wall for sure. #10370102

I read about these once in a magazine but had no idea this photo was one and the same. Saw your photos on face book and thought Wow! Great job Jeff! I admire your dedication to the art form...up all night! #10370180Rita K. Connell October 15, 2012
wow this is really fantastic jeff, really makes you think about how vast the universe is. I like how you added the tunnel into the image well done! #10370300Brandi K. Mills October 15, 2012
Gorgeous! I would hang this on my wall too! #10370366Michael Kelly October 15, 2012
Wow Jeff - one of the most dramatic night sky scenes I have had the pleasure of viewing. Definitely would be printed and on my wall too. It is going in my favorites which is as close as I can come. #10370559Aimee C. Eisaman October 15, 2012
True there isn't enough room to just cut off some from the bottom for a pano. O I bet it looks great...did you go with matte paper? #10370652Dale Hardin October 15, 2012
Remember Jeff. You promised me the Milky Way when I come up next spring! Haven't seen it since I was a kid and that was a looooooog time ago. #10370859Jeff E Jensen October 15, 2012
Thanks, everyone! I'm really excited about this image, I've wanted a good milky way shot for a long time.Aimee - I printed it on Canon Platinum Pro paper which is a high gloss. It looks really cool.
Dale - sounds like a good plan. If y'all come out here for next year's trip, I've got several places that we can head to for some night time photo ops. #10370872

So cool Jeff - just gorgeous, and it must have been so much fun too! Jealous! Hey Teresa, when you fly up here, we should just fly down to Utah for a night! :) Let's dream big! #10371790Debbra Bailey October 16, 2012
Oh, Jeff - squirrel! Nate really loves the light painting you do. Maybe when we come your way next summer, we could go to this place and set our camper up for the night? Is that allowed???? #10371791Jeff E Jensen October 16, 2012
Absolutely, Deb! We camped there Friday evening. There is literally nothing for miles, no water, power, cell service, etc. There's actually another place (the Spiral Jetty) that would be fun to do the same thing. We could make it a two-night venture. Spend a night at the Jetty, then move and spend the second night at the Tunnels. Would be pretty fantastic!Teresa H. Hunt October 16, 2012
I wanna come!! #10372238Beth Spencer October 16, 2012
