Warbird at rest
Uploaded: October 14, 2012
At an air show in Victorville last weekend, I found this beauty sitting on the tarmac, behind a fence with the sun behind it. Used PSE11 gradient mapping to convert to black and white.

COOL Dale!Dale Hardin October 14, 2012
Thanks very much Wm. #10369684Michael Kelly October 14, 2012
So nice to find one by itself on the field. One of the problems I have at the Air Races is that there are so many jammed together in one place it is hard to get a simple shot like this unless they are in the air. I like the single figure on the left - gives a nice sense of scale and a good feel to the shot. You might take the highlights down on the (picture right) stabilizer just a touch. Other than that it looks good to me.

Thank you Mike. That is exactly the problem I had with this show. All the interesting planes were on the tarmac behind a fence and we couldn't get to them to enhance our comps. Just had enough room between planes to catch this one alone after cropping the others out. Will tone that spot down. Good catch. #10369710

The BW gives this a very nostalgic feel and I like that. I think this is the kind of shot that would lend itself nicely to one of your antique edits as well. Might have to remove the guy though as he might look too modern. Maybe when you adjust things for Mike you could throw a stroke around it? :~) #10370082Jeff E Jensen October 15, 2012
Yup, same problem here with airshows. And, the planes that you can get around have thousands of people crowded around them. Oh well, still fun to shoot.Nice work on this, Dale! #10370099

this is a great shot, I love seeing the wing folded up, didn't know that about them. I think the B/W did give it a more nostalgic feel but it better than the original color.Nancy L. Green October 15, 2012
What a beauty Dale, I love the presentation in B+W!!! <>< #10370323Brandi K. Mills October 15, 2012
I really like this shot, especially in black and white. I do wish that man would've stepped out of the way. He's distracting for me. #10370374Dale Hardin October 15, 2012
thanks Aimee. I took your advice and tried aging it a bit. Also took the man out for Brandi.
Thanks Jeff and Rita.
Nancy, you're so kind. thank you. #10370845

Much better :) And I really like the aged one. Looks like a postcard. #10370921Aimee C. Eisaman October 15, 2012
I just love the aged one for this! Thanks so much for working it up for me to see Dale! :~) #10370952Dale Hardin October 15, 2012
Thanks Brandi and Aimee. I like doing this type image. #10371025Elaine Hessler October 15, 2012
LOVE the BW and sepia toned images! Especially with the person removed. I like the geometrical feel to this. I am not sure if you are going to do anything with these, but if you print, the tip of the wing got clipped in the sepia pic when you added the border. I love what you did to these!!! #10371179Beth Spencer October 15, 2012
I like the black and white one but the sepia works really well with this one. I am not familiar with these kind of planes, so why do the wings bend up? #10371206Jeff E Jensen October 15, 2012
Beth - they do that for transportation on a carrier. #10371297Dale Hardin October 15, 2012
Beth, Jeff is right of course. And when I was in the Navy, we had this type plane on the USS Wasp where I served in the early 50's.Noticed that Elaine and if I were to enter this in contest, I'd expand the top before adding a border to correct that. But just go lazy. #10371330

Thank you Deb, on both counts. I'm counting the days for my PA trip already. Can't wait! #10371940Debbra Bailey October 16, 2012
When are you going to PA? And where?? #10371974Dale Hardin October 16, 2012
Going to visit Esther, and hopefully all the gang including you, Bean, Jodi, and Aimee. Probably about the last week of June. You have no where to hide! :o) #10372102Debbra Bailey October 17, 2012
The last week of June is perfect! School is out then and we don't leave for Canada until the 29th I think.... yeah! Let us know for sure when you will be around! Bean and I would love to come hang with you guys for a day! Or, if you want to stop up in WNY, we could do a Niagara Falls trip, or whatever! You are always welcome to stay with us :) #10373207Dale Hardin October 17, 2012
Thank you Deb. I had planned to try to get up to see Jerry, so a trip to your area certainly sounds like a neat option. Somehow, I'm beginning to think this trip will last more than a week. :o) #10373399Elaine Hessler October 17, 2012
Hey-can I come? I'd love to meet you all. If you don't mind me inviting myself, keep me in the loop of place and time:) #10373463Dale Hardin October 17, 2012
