Description

One of the many, many beautiful waterfalls (a foss) in Iceland, which aren't grand enough to warrant mention in the tourbooks, but which had
me slamming on the brakes every other mile, to make a few captures.

I know you consider yourself an architectural specialist, Chris, but your landscape captures from this trip are second to none. This is a perfect example - spectacularly beautiful composition. It *IS* an extraordinarily beautiful country... jaw-dropping at every other turn and the most powerfully beautiful place I've visited thus far. (I traveled with my good friend Megan the whole time... we dropped a certain expletive MANY times while driving, often breaking a long silence of sort of rapt astonishment, in response to the amazing beauty everywhere.) So varied; so lush in places, so barren in others, ice on black sand, craggy mountains and vast meadows, thousands of waterfalls, dozens of volcanoes & glaciers... the list goes on and on! #10384978

Thanks, Ken! I don't know if this particular falls is seasonal or not... there were so many falls, everywhere it seemed, that only the biggest/grandest (and that's still a lot) seem to get write-ups. But covering so much territory (1,200 miles in the end) we just kept stumbling across more and more, from barely a trickling stream, to more impressive ones like this. (And all that, only visible from the main highway - we didn't have an SUV to go into the interior...)
Can't wait to get back one day - toying with a potential early-spring '14 visit, to try and catch the northern lights in March... #10697180
