Seahorse is the title given to forty-seven species of marine fish in the genus Hippocampus. This one is called either leafy sea horse or pot belly dragon.
"Hippocampus" comes from the Ancient Greek hippos meaning "horse" and kampos meaning "sea monster".
This little guy doesn't look much like a sea monster! lol

It may not look like much of a Sea Monster, but the names "Leafy Sea Horse" or "Pot Belly Dragon" fit it perfectly! Excellent capture with that gorgeous blue in the background! Fabulous clarity and detail in this wonderful close-up, Jo Ann! Nice work! :) #10335526Emile Abbott September 24, 2012
