Tarantula Hawk [Insect Pictures]

This is a wasp that has the most painful sting of any insect in Northern America. They are found in the US Deserts. They are not aggressive, but the female is the one that stings.

I will steer CLEAR--though she is gorgeous! I once opened the lid of a bird feeder on which a paper wasp nest was attached on the inside. I was stung twice on the back of my hand, and for hours I prayed for my hand to fall off. And this is WORSE! #10290919Barbara J. Eads August 26, 2012
Michelle, I took this with a 300mm lens, so I was a good distance away. They were very busy feeding on the nectar,and didn't pay attention to me. As I said they are not aggressive as long as they are not disturbed. #10290994JO ANN CLEVELAND September 25, 2012
