Next stop was Valencia and a visit to the City of Arts and Science. This towering architectural design stands in front of the L'Agora, a covered plaza where concerts and sporting events are held. It is only one of the structures in the "city" which is made up of an opera house/performing arts center, a planetarium, walkways/gardens, a science museum, and an open-air oceanographic part, and is an impressive example of modern architecture. Completed in 1998, it was built on a dry river bed after the River Turia was diverted after a catastrophic flood.
