The Sea Shadow was built in 1984 to examine the application of stealth technology in naval vessels. It conducted night missions only until it was revealed to the public in 1993. Developed at Lockheed's Redwood City facility, inside the Hughes Mining Barge (HMB-1), and has been housed in it when not on duty. HMB-1 functioned as an enclosed floating and submergible drydock.
