A stand-out detail of The Hecht Co.'s grand D.C. flagship store is the large, ornate corner clock mounted above 7th and F Street.
Clad in glazed terra cotta, the building offered 7 floors of retail. Hecht's was one of D.C.'s prominent store brands for more than a century, but
like so many once-great regional chains, it was eventually gobbled up by larger conglomerates, and the brand name was eventually discarded.
