Description

The memorial church and Evangeline's statue are features of the Grand-Pre National Historic Site near Wolfville, Nova Scotia. The park commemorates the Acadian settlement from 1682 to 1755 and the deportation of the Acadians by the British who had won the most recent war with the French) which began in 1755 and continued to 1762.

The statue of Evangeline celebrates the birthplace of the heroine in Longfellow's poem "Evangeline" published in 1847 which told the story of the deportation to the English-speaking world.
