Hearts Of Gold

It has an unattractive skin,
A baggy pouch in place of chin.
Its manners are grotesque and rude,
It's very sloppy with its food...
It bulges where it ought to curve.
I think it has a lot of nerve
To look so pompous, pleased and smug
With such an unimpressive mug,
And yet I shouldn't carp nor scold..
Perhaps it has a heart of gold.

And I LOVE Pelicans by the way!! ;)

Ahhhh, no cares....if only ;) , but yes, at these moments there are not!!Thomas E. Hinds June 10, 2012
This is just fabulous in light and comp, Lori! The poem addition is awesome. And the subject is one of my favorites! I have spent many hours watching pelicans and this is a wonderful reminder to do some more watching of them! They may be the worst divers in the bird family! LOL! Terrific work! #10175449Lori Carlson June 15, 2012
Hahaha Thomas...yes, their feeding isn't quite graceful! But sure enjoy them...especially the coloring of the older pelicans.Sign up for an interactive online photography course to get critiques on your photos.
