Inside a Magic Giant [Digital Darkroom]
Uploaded: May 04, 2012 14:12:42
This is one of the "Giant" sequoias located in a 100 acre grove, here in CA. The tallest tree towers over 230 feet, and the largest diameter is 20 +/-. More than 216 trees have a diameter over 6 feet. These giants are among the oldest of all living things this on...Earth...it is estimated some are over 2,000 years old.
I have exaggerated the trees expanse by reducing the size of the men standing near its base and enlarging the sea gull flying out-of-the-bounds of the ocean image. I have placed the oceann image inside an actual split or opening of this tree. It is believed this tree survived a fire because of the charred inside of this opening. Another interesting fact is that these trees have a thick, protective layer of bark filled with a harsh chemical tannin and offer these trees some protection from fire. An average man appears dwarfed by the size of these amazing trees.
Exif: F Number: 5.6, Exposure Bias Value: 0.00, ExposureTime: 10/130 seconds, Flash: did not fire., ISO: 200, White balance: Manual white balance, FocalLength: 24.00 mm, Model: NIKON D70
