Lynnewood Hall is a Neoclassical Revival mansion in Elkins Park, Pennsylvania, designed by architect Horace Trumbauer for industrialist Peter A. B. Widener between 1897 and 1900. The largest surviving Gilded Age mansion in the Philadelphia area, it housed one of the most important Gilded Age private art collections of European masterpieces and decorative arts.
Widener died at Lynnewood Hall in 1915 after prolonged poor health. He was predeceased by his elder son George Dunton Widener and grandson Harry Elkins Widener, both of whom died when the Titanic sank in 1912.
After Widener’s death, Lynnewood Hall suffered a general decline under the ownership of the Faith Theological Seminary, which purchased it in 1952 for $192,000. Lynnewood Hall was added to the Preservation Alliance for Greater Philadelphia's 2003 list for most endangered historic properties. At this point, the property is vacant and unused.

Oh NO! There were, somehow, two versions of this photo in my gallery, and both were listed as entries into the contest. I opened each, and the comments were identical for both. So I deleted the second one--and all ten comments disappeared. I apologize to those whose comments are lost.Michelle Alton April 09, 2012

Very interesting story. Sad to see it going to waste. Nice capture! (I like the bent railing on the fence).

Wonderful shot of this magnificient mansion, Michelle. It would be a shame if such a historic piece of splendor would fall to ruins.

What a waste; the neglect and diluted use.
Your piece is well framed.
Very interesting, Michelle.

Really like the story. Interesting link to the Titanic. Well seen and well shot, Michelle. I'm with Terry. I want to get inside. They should sell tours to Photogs at your own risk. #10083222Barbara Waldoch April 09, 2012
