NH Covered Bridge

Description

Why do they cover bridges? Wooden bridges with exposed superstructures are vulnerable to rot. Covering and roofing them protects them from the weather, and so they last longer.

Nice Comp. that takes in some great surrounding features. Not the USUAL POV when shooting these bridges. ?? WHY COVER A BRIDGE ?? One of those ?? that HAUNTS ME ??

As a child I used to walk to school by way of an old covered bridge (that once spanned a portion of the Erie Canal--now a freeway). I thought it was there to keep us warm and dry. It was demolished, after which a footbridge was built with aluminum rails. The first winter, the school sent notes home telling the parents to warn their children about "LICKING THE BRIDGE!" Guess what happened?

This is a gorgeous view, Doug. #9850283

I guess that's as good a reason as any to cover them. #9850295

Beautifully composed, I love how you take us right down the road, the way we can see trough the bridge to the other side. Gorgeous colors, a beautiful scene so well captured. Not many of these around anymore. A treat for us my friend.
Have a great day. #9851688
