As promised, here are a few images from the Civil war re-enactment. Haven't processed the battle scenes so far but do have a few of the people shots so this group is dedicated to them. #1398992

All look good Dale. I like the original post in this group the best. It seems to be a great pose and reminds me of many of the actual period shots I have seen though without an attempt to copy them in style. The color of course makes it certain that it is modern and I think it should remain that way. A modern tribute to the past.

The period costumes are great in all of these. Do they make them or buy them? #9586540

Dale Hardin August 06, 2011

Thanks Mike. I'm sure some of the costumes are purchased and there were tents selling clothes and other items of the period. There was a section just for that purpose. Many of the costumes are made by the participants and later I'll have some images of a lady that was making dresses and selling them there. #9586814

Dale, my friend I just love the way that you have branched out this past year and your people-shots always fascinate me. I always take for granted that you will work on your images to make them as perfect as possible but it is the subject matter that provokes my thoughts beyond those pixels. #9587296

Anthony L. Mancuso August 07, 2011

Excellent series Dale...great event to get some interesting portraits. Looks like they actually resurrected honest Abe for the weekend! I agree with Mike's comments about the original post, although I wouldn't mind seeing made to look like an original period piece like you do so well.. #9587476

Rita K. Connell level-classic August 07, 2011

WOW theses are great. the original post if a great shot very nicely done as a modern tribute of the past as mike said. but I am with Tony I wouldn't mind seeing made to look like an original period piece like you do so well
I agree it does look like honest Abe has been resurrected. the family shot is great but not in color. #9587734

Dale Hardin August 07, 2011

Thanks Peter. Will be posting more later. It was a treasure trove of willing subjects and I didn't take full advantage of it but will on the next one.

Tony, thanks a lot. I had actually done that image in that manor and have included it in this post.

Thank you Rita. The gentleman playing Abe Lincoln is widely know and tours the country giving speeches etc. His lovely wife is an avid photographer (Debra) and she traveled around with Robert and I much of the day. We took turns holding backdrops for each other etc. Great fun. #9587789

Some more excellent shots Dale, like the period one a lot...is it me or does that little girl resemble Jeff's daughter? #9591414

Beth Spencer August 08, 2011

Dale these are all terrific!! You did a great job of capturing the facial expressions on the people. You also have some excellent poses from the people!!

Dale Hardin August 08, 2011

thank you Tony and Beth. I have many more people shots and tons of event images that I'll try to post later. Sorry I don't have a blog such as Jeff's to display them for you. #9591758

Carla Capra Anderson August 09, 2011

These are all fantastic, Dale!
I especially like your original post. I must agree that its all about his pose and similarities to time specific images. But, then there is the up close and personal image of the lovely blonde. I'm a huge fan of those close ups and it was an immediate, WoW, image for me. They have a large annual event here in Fresno. Each year, we plan to attend and something has always gotten in the way. The little girl is precious.

Dale Hardin August 09, 2011

Thanks so much Carla. We heard many of the participants speaking of the event it Fresno. You should go if for nothing other than the portraits. They are all so very willing to be photographed and will pose as directed.

I wasn't prepared for that so didn't get as many as I could have. Of course you also have the battle itself as these two samples show. #9592711

More and more super images Dale but may I be permitted to say I am not too keen on the "tending the wounded" one.
The vignette is way too dark and sharp. It makes it look as if we are peering through a WW2 pillbox embrasure. #9592757

Jeff E Jensen August 09, 2011

As always, these are excellent work. Well done my friend.

You would be well-served by a blog, Dale. I'd be more than happy to give you a tutorial when you are out this way. #9592821

Carla Capra Anderson August 09, 2011

You have inspired me to give it a try, Dale. It seems like it usually takes place in Sept or Oct, I will have to look into it.
These latest images are wonderful.

Dale Hardin August 09, 2011

Thank you Peter. Always glad to show images from "your" era. :o) The "tending" shot is a bit different but only because with all the images I collected, it became a challenge to find new ways to display them. It's that search that teaches me the tools of the trade so to speak.

Thank you Jeff. I was hoping you'd get that not so subtle hint.

Go for it Carla but be prepared for weeks of sleepless nights going over all the shots you'll get. #9593245

Jeff E Jensen August 09, 2011

Sounds good, Dale. While you're working on getting basic PS techniques through my thick skull, I'll help you build a blog. #9593321

Aimee C. Eisaman August 10, 2011

A great shot Dale that really translated well to the antiqued look, but I still do like the color version too. Alot of other great shots too. That Abe really fits the bill doesn't he? And I just love the girl in the red dress...great painterly feel for that one although I think it needs a bit more detail for the face. :~) #9595018

Dale Hardin August 10, 2011

Thanks Aimee. Here is a shot of where that girl was going. By the way, the horse on the left later threw a temper tantrum and a hissy fit because all the other horse went to battle and he was left behind.

It was a riot to witness. Went on for 15 minutes with him kicking dirt, screaming, laying on his back kicking his feet in the air and acting like a two year old. Had never seen a horse do that before. #9595076

Aimee C. Eisaman August 10, 2011

That red dress is something else! Ha...a horsie temper tantrum...that's funny! :~) #9595104

Rita K. Connell level-classic August 10, 2011

your last one you posted looks great love the red dress. I am sure that was something to see. I have seen a horse do the kicking, screaming but never on his back....LOL #9595499

Dale these are just great... what a fun event to participate in, and even more fun to photograph. You did a fabulous job! #9598180

Thanks so much guys. The most fun was meeting all the BPers there. #9603557
