Catching Some Rays

Uploaded: July 25, 2011

Description

In the heat of the summer, squirrels love to spread out, yes, even on their backs and nap in little depressions they have hollowed out in the dirt at the base of one of the trees in our back garden. Lazy, hazy daze of Summer, I guess. :-)

Too crazy.....sure it hasn't had a heat stoke? #9644798

Thanks Jim, these squirrels are a blast to watch. They'll spread out in all sorts of bizare positions and nap in little depressions they've dug. Yes, I'm going to have to fill in a few spots with dirt once the heat is over and they've moved on to more normal behavior patterns but I don't mind. My wife and I enjoy watching them and they are good photo subjects. #9644822

Have never seen this before. Will have to watch for this next summer. #9768309

Sherran, we've only seen it the last couple of summers. Not that this summer has been any hotter than a lot of previous summers here in Texas so I suspect it's just because in more recent years we've had a lot more squirrel activity in our garden resulting in more opportunities to observe their antics. #9768397
