The Fallen One
Uploaded: May 26, 2011
This immature Red Tailed Hawk fell from a nest prematurely. My sons and I made an artifical nest out of a sawed-off milk crate, lashed it to a branch in a flowering crab tree near the nest tree (the nest he fell from is in an oak about 50 feet off the ground), and lined the crate with cedar boughs. It took two days, but the adults have now begun bringing food to BOTH nests (one babe in each). A successful intervention. This one is showing his thanks here by sitting for me for a nice full-frame portrait in his milk crate.
