The Milford Road

This road, from Te Anau to Milford Sound, NZ, winds through deep, stony valleys where waterfalls cascade into mossy beech forests. It’s a spectacular route – 75 miles long full of hairpin turns and incredible scenery, but also has a high number of fatalities and injuries caused by head-on car crashes – most of which are caused by overseas drivers. That’s fog you see in the mountains on the right. This was taken just before the Homer Tunnel.

What a magnificant capture, Rona! The beauty of this road and surroundings is unbelievable! Stunning capture! #9283768Carol L. Fowler March 10, 2011
It's a beautiful road that I drove without incident!! The way we managed it was to have the front seat passenger act as the navigator to remind us to stay on the wrong side of the road! We also had a stick shift which was also confusing for the opposite placement of the turn signals and wipers but normal clutch placement. #9284360Terry Cervi March 10, 2011
