I think that this is a lovely capture, the greenery is incredibly lush and alive. They lighting is nice and soft, I can almost feel the dampness. Nice work Colleen. I looked in you gallery and I love the photo with the adarondak (sp?) chairs.

Going to be hard to explain, but when we looked at your photo, both thought it was good, but there was nothing to stop the eye, it KINDA blends together, not sure how else to explain it. Lovely picture overall. Sorry my critique was not crisper too, LOL. #1774443

Hi Jody, Thanks so much for your critique. I am grateful for the oppourtunity to improve and capture better shots. What would you do to improve this shot (if anything at all). Or would you have looked for a different focal point all together.

Thanks again!

Neither my dh or I are experts by any stretch of any imagination, lol, but MAYBE if the most outstanding point (about 3/4 to the right in the pic) had been made to be the center, may of helped, or at least made to stand out more? I want this type of critique for my pics, so hope you want it too, by all means, feel free to disregard it, LOL, is meant in the purest form of friendship. #1774520

I did a bit of crop work on the original photo so maybe I will tinker with it tomorrow and see if a different centre point will improve the shot. Oh and Jody, I am very grateful for your critique. It would be silly for someone to request feedback if they aren't "really" looking for both good and bad. I will post a new version here as soon as I have worked on it a bit, perhaps you and dh wouldn't mind offering another objective opinion?

Here is the same photo with no cropping at all. Do you feel this adds a better focal interest?

Thanks again,

Well, both Jacque (dh) and I agree we like this one more, though make sure you know we do like both! But the chasm, on the right side, still seems to blend into the forground. Have not a clue as to how to rectify it, but we both noticed that quickly. Hope this viewpoint at least helps, and thanks for looking at "introspective" that was much appreciated! Jody #1774839

Hi Collen, I am not and expert by any means. On the top photo the sun glare off the rocks were distracting. it drew me away from the ferns. #1776991

Coleen Thompson August 28, 2005

Hi Emmett, I took another look at the photograph and while I did notice the glare from the sun on the rock, it never occured to me that it took away from the shot. I see now how the eye wants to head straight there though. Do you find it better in the second version Ferned Gully 2. Or do you still find it too distracting? Thanks for your feedback! #1778076

Keri M. Dietrich August 28, 2005

Hi Collen, I prefer the cropped version. It has a cleaner look, I didn't see the sun glare at first but since I've seen it now, my eyes keep going there instead of the subject. I still think it's a good photo though. #1778181

I Like them both, I love the contrast of the green against the rocks. #1785979

I am still torn on which version is best. but I have posted both in my gallery. I think I will go back and look in a few weeks and see how I feel about them then. Thanks for your advice! #1802484
